Random Excellence

A comment from Nitsa the other day reminded me to revisit her site, nonphotography.com. There is also a book. Nitsa's non-photography non-rule rules:
no special gear (too heavy).
no instruction books (too boring).
no calculations (too calculated).
Her work has been on CD covers and in movies, featured on the web, in newspapers, on T.V., and in many magazines and now—giving her the recongition she deserves, at last, whew—here on T.O.P.'s Random Excellence. (I kid.)

What a lovely link - thank you Mike.
Well deserved mention. While there are many sites online worth following, Nitsa's best combines experimental techniques in artful ways. I find her work to be motivational in giving me a push to try new methods.
Thanks ! Since I became a father 4 years ago, I've more or less abandoned the classic tripod/DOF-preview/MLU/Velvia nature photography I thought I loved (no time !) in favor of shooting candids of friends & family and strangers at events and have recently been getting a bit bored with 'straight' approaches to that. This site is inspiring and comes along at a great time for me !
Hooray! Nitza's friendly, earthy subversiveness was an inpiration when I took up photography, and she's still a fave. It's a treat to see her praised on the web's premier photography blog by a respected classicist, and to hear that she's doing well. Even better, perhaps, is learning that she's still at it...and using film!
Great site, thanks!
Inspiring. Must get off the farm and into the streets sometimes. Thanks, Mike.
More like this, please. I saw this site and was inspired to go out last night with my Holga.
Sorry, this leaves me dead-cold, like there's dirt in my mouth.
Look at the photos -- underneath all the kraft-store mannerisms and photoshoppery (no special gear? no instruction books? no calculations?), are they good photos? Can you even tell? I don't buy it.
Nice Pictures. I like the effects you have done.
