Vaporware with a Face
For those who might be interested (and who haven't seen these elsewhere), here are the JPEGs released by Olympus of what they're calling the "concept" camera...presumably the current state of the prototype mock-up for the coming top-of-the-line or "E-2" body. (These pictures are currently available on the Oympus press site under Consumer Products > Product Images > Digital Cameras > E-System Body > Concept Camera. No newer pictures are currently on the site.)

PhotographyBlog has also published some pictures of the "P-1" mock-up shown at PMA.

Dang, talk about a blob of plastic. The PMA photos of the mock-up look much better, sort of Nikonesque.
The current SLR's look all the same. It is disappointing to witness the lack of imagination. Alhouth I am no fan of Point and Shoots you can see much more creativity in the R&D of the aforementioned cameras.
Mike:
Those are September's mock-up photos. More recent (with more detail) mock-up photos (including a rear-view showing the articulating live-view screen you were hankering after) are being shown around the web.
I take it the PMA mock-up is the latest evolution of the "blob of plastic" depicted here.
So did this make anyone else wonder if Olympus' designers used to work for the auto industry?
Hey Mike,
Those photos are actually of the Photokina version mock-up of the concept camera of the E-1 successor. The current PMA mock-up of the concept of the E-1 successor looks more than a little bit different (and can be seen at dpreview and elsewhere).
Returning now to my unconvincing mock-up of the concept of a productive work life ...
It looks like they chickened out on the Photokina design and took some sandpaper to all the straight edges for the PMA version. Now it just looks like A N Other SLR. Pity.
Looks like a morphed remodelling of Pentax MZ-S and om-1 to me.
Bottom line, it looks ugly. E-1 has a much better design. To me at least
