Sam Cooke

New on the Music site: My take on Sam Cooke.

Also, don't miss KK on Link Wray.

Mike, I don't know much about Sam Cooke, but it sounds like he was the Chuck Berry of soul music. Berry was never given his just due as pretty much the father of rock 'n' roll. That distinction went to the over-hyped, over-rated Elvis Presley, the Britney Spears of his time.

You are probably already familiar with them, but do check out Sam Cooke's gospel recordings with the Soul Stirrers. If anything, they are better than his pop stuff. An amazing voice.

Off topic, but musical.......The Fab Faux, the extraordinary NY Beatles cover band will be playing on Letterman tomorrow night. If there is a Beatles fan out there, I think that they'll be amazed to see how this group reproduces the most complex Beatles music, much of which was never performed live. Brilliant rock musicianship is enhanced with string and brass. The group is fronted by Will Lee, Letterman's bassist and he is joined by Jimmy Vivino, the guitarist and musical director of the Conan O'Brian show. Google Fab Faux and read the Rolling Stone Article on the group. I've seen them three times live and this is their first prime time Nationwide performance. They have a website, but it appears to be down this week.

I don't usually highjack threads, but it looks as if Mike is as crazy about music as he is photography and I couldn't help myself.

Sorry for the distraction. Back to the regular programming.
