I was doing some scans of dead bouquets ( decay is so much more interesting than perfection you know ... ) a few years ago, but the cost of all that dead black on an ink jet got to me.
The old cheap scanners seem to have better depth of field , and 600 dpi is still 33 megapixels from a "camera" you can pick out of the trash

nice scanner photography,,,i do some of flora detritus myself, but, it seems, with the linked articles, that you are posing/posting commentary on other photography related issues...

it is my belief that the camera - in the hand (on the tripod) of a sensitive photographer, is capable of denoting truthful slices/traces of the real...i also beleive that along with the denoted subject of the camera's gaze comes Alfred Steiglitz/Minor White's (et al) connoted equivalence factor...

the equivalence experience of any given photograph can be - and usually is - as varied as there are observers of the photograph...and, as photo-critic-skeptics point out, these equivalence experiences are greatly dictated by the cultural-paradigm-induced preconceptions, biases and "knowledge" that the observer brings to the table - not to mention the influence of those would alter an image to make their politcal/commercial point (re: Peeking Under the Cover)...

witness Susie Linfield's bias..."I doubt that such sorrows can even begin to abate until the women in the cemetery take off their veils...and enter into the modern world to begin making modern politics."...how very feminist - the removal of veils, basically the shedding of tribal tradition, as a prerequisite for "modern politics"...

that said, there is much to be said for the notion "...to transform my pleasure into knowledge... as an MO for viewing art...

BUT, the fly in that ointment - again the photo-critic-skeptics - is the belief that an observer of art could "...begin to formulate her own, independent aesthetic that could lead to an equally visceral enjoyment of art...", and, "...the only capacious and intelligent way to experience movies was to combine one’s deepest emotional reactions...with a probing analysis of them."

hmmm - Virtually Reality or Real Virtuality seems to suggest that we live in a culture that does not value either of the aforementioned...in fact, a culture that, with omni-present visual political propaganda and ubiqitous visual commercial incitement of unthinking emotionally-driven consumer desire, works overtime to negate or erradicate discernment...

which leads us right back to those pesky photo-critic-skeptics...
