Not-So-Random Excellence

Kirk Tuck, Ann Richards

"I started getting requests for my favorite shot of Ann Richards shot on Friday of last week and not a single editor or art buyer asked me if it was shot on a Canon 1DS mk 2 or a D2x or a medium format digital back. All they wanted was the image. Shot in 1985 on the steps of the Texas State Capital during a Mondale rally.

"Nikon FM with a 105mm ƒ/2.5 on Kodachrome 64.

"It sure makes sense to take care of your archives."

Great shot of Ann Richards (she will be missed) and fantastic example of why archive maintenance is important.

Kirk thought so too when he wrote the M6 article, as he was shooting with both cameras that day. But on checking his records he discovered it was taken with the Nikon and 105mm. As he says, "Sorry, but memory and record keeping from 21 years ago isn't always an exact science. We often carried two or three cameras in the pre-zoom days with wides and norms on the rangefinders and longer lenses on the Nikons."

Are you sure of the date? Mondale ran for president in 1984. Unlikely it would have been a Mondale campaign in 1985, perhaps he was campaigning for her?
