Rip It to Shreds
Okay, by request—anybody brave enough to submit a picture for a critique? I've got to warn you, though, I'll probably rip it to shreds. So please don't ask unless you have thick skin and can take it.
P.S. Just one, please!

Hmm. You want a picture I'm proud of, or one that doesn't quite work and I don't know why?
Signed, someone who's never quite understood the whole photo critique concept.
Here are some photos. If any of them spark a reaction from you, I'd love to hear about it, even if you do rip it to shreds. You will be better than me at picking a photo that interests you.
Hi Mike!
Ok, I'm the brave one ;-)
Here's you go:

This is the one of my own that - at the moment - I like the best :) Note: it's a pure candid :), shot during St. Patrick Parade in Dublin this year - not a setup, as well as rest of my photographs. Feel free to choose any other if you don't find this one bad enough :P :P
cheers

Hi, Mike. I'm tragically bad at proper web manipulation, so, here's a link that'll take you to a photo. It's the one for June 16th that I'm submitting for shredding. Although you may get better ones ("better" as in they're really, really good, or they're really, really bad).

I'd be more than willing but how do we get it to you? Could post it on a website and link it via a comment?
I'm brave enough!
And just so I don't get to ponder which one from my Flickr photostream I should submit, let's use the last one I've posted
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lekke/171455661/
fire away!
This blog does not allow anonymous comments.
So one has to create a blog site in order to post here? I had a picture for you to critique but I'm certainly not going to that much trouble in order to give you an address for it.
In the lingo of the youngsters, that sucks.
I'm thick skinned, have fun.

Hi Mike:
Regarding your "challenge" for someone to submit a photograph for your perusal...here is a picture I made while living in Norway many moons ago. I called it "ballet school".
Best regards,
Paul
PS I am brand new at the blogging thing so I hope the photograph comes through.
If not, please look at my blog site-Paul Leidl's Blog.
OK
Which email?
Peter
I'm willing ... if I have the right of reply!!!
OK Mike, I'll bite. Here's a link to two portrates, take your pick.

I'm game, how do I post an image?

Mike,
Not sure if you simply mean send you links. But if so, what about this one:

I'll take you up on your offer! I didn't see a way to email you, so I'm posting in the comments.
Hi. I've been reading your writings online for several years now on Luminous Landscape and Photo.net. Honestly speaking, you are my favorite commentator on photography. In fact, I've pretty much given up reading most of the others, except occasionally. :-) Maybe because it's your love of the "unlovable", such as Pentax, but your opinion to me, carries more weight with me than others'.
Therefore, I would be honored to have you tear apart one of my photos. :-) I'm not a great photographer, but I do have one photo which I would appreciate your critiquing. I took it last fall near Niagara Falls.
Oddly enough, while I sort of like this photo, I don't consider it to be a particularly good photo, and certainly not very compelling. I suppose it would make a good post card (which is about the best you could say for any of my photos) But it keeps drawing me back somehow, and I don't know why. In any case, you won't hurt my feelings by trashing this particular photo, and I would be amazed and flattered by any positive words that may find their way inadvertently or otherwise into your critique.
Here is the link to the photo. If you do decide to critique my photo, and wish to have a full-sized version, you can email me for it. I believe my email address is accessible to you.

Fire it up!
...if I'm not too late to the party. You can safely asume that a) I'm eager to hear some ways to enhance my technique (pre- or post taking a pic like that) and b) I can take a „throw it away alongside your equipment, there's no hope” if that would be the case.
Dear me, I didn't see your note about only 1 photo. What a kerfuffle.
OK, please critique

I'd be happy to submit one. How can I get it to you?
Where do you want these images to be sent for shredding?

p.s.: i like it, even if it's under-exposed and the colors aren't that nice (though i do have some trouble getting good colors out of under-exposed slides with my scanner/software)
Now I don't know if he's serious or not! ;)

I'd like to send one, but how is it done? Should I send it to an email adress?
Hey, be my guest!
This one is my favorite, the caption translates:
"What else did we forget?"
Thanks! ;-)
Mike,
I'll have a go at it:

This is a shot I took in Yellowstone National Park in 2004. I used a Canon 10D with a (rented, unfortunately) 300mm f2.8L IS. It's actually one of the few pictures I've taken that I actually like, and haven't found anything to critique myself on.
Would love to hear another's viewpoint on it.
Thanks!
Chris
Don't all rush in at once... :-)
OK, I'll start. http://www.noise-to-signal.com/2006/06/banana_leaf.html
Be brutal :-)

Ok... I'll bite. How about
this:
It's a mountain in Alaska near Denali named the Moose's Tooth. It was taken on a
climbing trip in April with an Olympus E-300 & 14-54 lens.
I thought I had offered. In case it didn't get through first time, I'm offering ... as long as I have the right of reply!
Ok, go ahead and rip it up in my blog. I'm feeling suicidal today. hehe...
Ok. Rip it up... I'm suicidal.
Not without trepidation...

Frankly, you could critique any photos of mine if you'd prefer another one.

Thanx!
Mike,
Forgot to mention that the photograph I submitted (along with the others from that trip) earned this comment in my guestbook:
"The Canon is not a 2/14 2/14 and trying to make it one is not good. You have more to think about than the format. the 2/14 is boring and so is the 35mm. Composition, post processing, subject matter is very lacking. A camera, lens or other equipment no matter how good or expensive does not make the photographer. I am sorry, but you should look at a lot of other photos and go to books or museums to see what makes a good photo. Shoot a lot, and do not post out of focus, badly composed, no contrast and boring photos. Make yourself proud of what you see, and photograph, and do it well.
Howard Horwich
horwich@sbcglobal.net"
I'm not sure if you could rip my work into shreds any smaller than that or not, but feel free to try if the mood hits you! ;-)
Chris
I would love to submit an image so you can "rip it to shreds" since all I can do is improve. I have been successful in several juried shows this year, but I am lightyears away from the quality and vision that can make my work special. Web critiques by strangers with unknown credentials have outlived their usefulness for me. How can I submit an image to you for the "bloodletting" I so richly deserve?
So everybody is sending their photographs... here's mine http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=129601203&size=o
I'm Salvador Moreno from Spain, and I am a highschool teacher with free time for photography.
Hahaha, Mike, I'm just amazed you didn't see this coming. I'm a 1/10th qualified jack-booted writer somebody handed a camera to and I get emails all the time asking for my "professional opinion" as to this or that photo. Getting a guy as clearly well-informed and interested in the art of photography as yourself to hold his hand out and say, 'Sure, I'll critique your image' is an internet auteur's wet dream. Just do us all a favor and, in fact, rip them to shreds. The photos you've already posted are gorgeous. This is like American Photo Idol, Mike! We want dross! Lots of dross!
Hahahahahahah.
