The Name of this Rose is…C-Lux 1
Presumably for those who have really passionate feelings with regard to things like Coke vs. Pepsi, Leica has introduced its slick, sweet, but not-really-awaited rebranding of the Panasonic FX-01. Nice, but a rose by any other name etc.
One hopes Leica is doing more than that with its time. This may be obvious only to aficionados, but there is a fine little drama brewing up in advance of Photokina. Namely, what's going to be first—will it be the Digital M, or will Zeiss and Cosina come swooping in before Leica can get its $#|t together and steal the thunder big-time with a digi-rangefinder based around the Zeiss Ikon[N]? There has been nary a peep out of the principals concerning the latter. A number of people have seen the digital M, but then (a little-known fact) the M7 was actually named for the number of years we had to talk about it before it actually came out. Presumably Zeiss and Cosina have, or had, a leg up, since Cosina has already produced a digital rangefinder. We'll see, but it's at least possible there could soon be a whole lot of steam erupting from certain Teutonic backrooms.
